CLIMBING A MAYAN PYRAMID IN COBA MEXICO

CLIMBING A MAYAN PYRAMID IN COBA MEXICO

Me on top of the Temple of Cobá. In this vlog I document one of my funnest and most interesting adventures I've experienced. On our last day in Playa del Carmen, we decided to make the hour and a half drive to Cobá to visit the tallest pyramid in the Yucatán peninsula, the Nohuch Mul pyramid. It was really nice to be able to climb up the the pyramid and enjoy the view from up top. The pyramid is about a 1 km from the entrance of the site so I recommend renting a bicycle and take the nice ride in through the jungle to the actual pyramid. At the time of writing this, you are still allowed to climb up the pyramid.

A few facts about the Cobá:

• The Nohuch Mul pyramid stands 138 feet tall • Cobá means “water stirred by wind” in the Mayan language • Nohuch Mul means large mound” in the Mayan language • 120 steps up to the top • the site is located about 40 kms northwest from Tulum • over 50 "sacbeob" (white stone causeways) led to Cobá only 16 are open to the public. • the longest sacbe is 60 miles long
